Sunrise over the Salton Sea from the Anza-Borrego Desert.
In the Anza-Borrego Desert, driving through the Montezuma Valley on my way to Borrego Palm Canyon, I caught a brief glimpse of the Salton Sea beginning to glow through a gap in the hillside. I immediately changed my plans, threw the truck in reverse, and drove the short distance back to this gap. I grabbed my tripod, hurriedly identified a spot and composition, and waited for the sun to rise. I was happy with the result, but thought I could do better by returning the next morning with more time to plan and set up. However, the light was simply better on that first day, so here is the result. I seldom ditch my plans in the spur of the moment, but every once in awhile spontaneity is the right answer. March 2023.
