Pre-dawn view of the Sierra from Domeland Wilderness
My friend and I hiked to the top of Bald Mountain in the Domeland Wilderness in September, 2022. This mountain peaks at 9,430 feet above sea level, and has a commanding 365 degree view; for this reason a fire tower sits on top of the mountain. To the south and east lies the Domeland Wilderness, with its beautiful "small" granite domes dotting the landscape. To the west is the Sequoia National Forest.
This photo faces north, up the Eastern Sierra. I think Kern Peak (11,510') is the tall mountain to the right in the background, which would place Mount Whitney (14,505') about the same distance behind Kern.
This photo was taken about 15 minutes before sunrise. To the north the sky was velvety purple. The the east and south, a dull orange that would explode into brilliance shortly. To the west, dark blue and lavender. The next thirty minutes would be among the most intensely beautiful I have ever experienced, but the soft, dreamy purples of this particular scene may have been the most moving moment.
