A Black Kite soars in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria.
While the Black Kite is probably the most common species in the world within the Accipitridae family (eagles, hawks, kites, many vultures), there is no such thing as a boring raptor. During three long days in a photography hide in the Rhodope mountains with my guide Georgi, shooting epic vulture battles peppered with eagle and jackal appearances, I had plenty of time to follow the speedy kites around with my lens and find a few shots. I noticed this one flying towards us before it dropped below a ridge, fortunately I was able to grab focus as it popped back into view. June 2023.
