Blue Grosbeak in blooming mustard.
Mustard. It is considered an invasive species in Southern California, but given that it has lived here since 1769 and pre-dates most of our ancestors' time in America, I'm inclined to attend to some positives: There are a lot of birds that utilize its habitat, and it provides some specular scenery when in bloom. Each year I eagerly await the 2-3 week window within which I can take variations on this shot - The beautiful male Blue Grosbeak within a sea of yellow flowers. I try to find a depth of field that will bring some flowers in sharp focus, some in soft, and some just a smear of yellow (both fore- and background flowers). April 2023.
